The Nameko mushroom is Japan's second most popular cultivated mushroom (shiitake is the most popular). This mushroom in my opinion is one of the most delicious mushrooms I have tasted, with strong flavor and a pleasant scent reminiscent of cashews. The nameko has a fleshy orange fruiting body and is covered with a gelatinous film when young. This mushroom grows wild in the far east, especially on oak and other deciduous trees in the temperate forests. In the butterscotch mushroom. Nameko mushrooms are used in many stir-fry recipes, as well as in soups and souces.
(Lentinula edodes)
The Shiitake Mushroom is the most popular edible mushroom in Japan. The Asians have used it for thousands of years as a tonic and stimulant to increase vitality, prevent cerebral hemorrhage strokes, as well as improve circulation.
Currently, scientists in the west are studying the shiitake mushroom by extracting lentinan a substance found in this type of mushroom. Research by the scientific community is curiouse about the anti-tumor, Cholesterol, and blood pressure lowering properties.
Shiitake mushrooms have been hailed for both their culinary and health benefits in Japan and other parts of Asia for hundreds of years, and their popularity worldwide increses every year. Found primarily on thicker-barked hardwoods like oak, they also do well on "scrub" hardwoods like alder although longevity of the logs will be less than that of other hardwoods. Logs or stumps can be inoculated; after incubating around 6-8 months your logs will produce shiitake for 2-6 years.
They’re found in late summer to fall on dead or dying hardwood trees, especially oak and beech. They grow in North America, China, Japan, and Europe. This doesn’t look like your typical mushroom. It has no real cap and no stem. Instead it sports long spines coming out from a single clump. The purpose of these spines is to manufacture and release spores, the “seeds” of a mushroom that allow the fungal organism to reproduce. Many different types of mushrooms have spines instead of a cap, but lions mane and other members of the Hericium genus are some of the most recognizable. Their color is mainly white, although they become brown or yellow with age. This is not a common species of mushroom so finding one in the woods may be a rare treat. They grow higher up on trees rather than the base, which means that they’re also often missed during a mushroom hunt. This mushroom provides more than just a visual treat. They’re considered by many to be a gourmet edible, with a wonderfully chewy texture and taste slightly reminiscent of seafood. Lions mane has also been the subject of more and more medical studies in the last decade. They appear to have nerve regenerating properties, stimulating nerve growth and aiding those with cognitive impairments. yesterday’s funny looking mushroom may be part of tomorrows dementia treatment. In this kit we give you all you need to grow your own Lion’s mane Mushroom, you just provide the log, or stump. Lion's Mane Plug Spawn (Qty 50)

Not surprising, as reishi has been used in china for over 2,000 years! This mushroom has a long history of use as an herbal medicine. Modern research is now confiming its healing power in the body.
There are six different types of Ganoderma lucidium: red, purple, green, white, yellow, and black. The red mushroom is the most well-studied and is said to possess the most healing properties Reishi is known as ling zhi (mushroom of immortality) in China and mannentake (10,000 year mushroom) in Japan. It is sometimes also referred to as the “herb of spiritual potency.”
This kit contains the red mushroom variety and will inoculate a 40” long log. Reishi appear shiney and brilliant when wet and dry to a dull, dusty color. All species of Ganoderma are defined as polypores. This means they have no gills on their undersides and release spores through small pores. If you flip a reishi mushroom over you will see the flat, corky area where spores are released. Younger growth on the mushroom emerges as white ring around the edge.
Originally found in China, Japan, and Korea, reishi now grown on hardwood throughout the world. They are very rare to find in the wild.
Most will have a red or brown cap with a roughly oval or kidney shape. However, if carbon dioxide levels are high enough a cap will not form and the mushrooms will look like long “antlers” or “fingers” instead.

The mushroom that glows in the dark! After working with several species of bioluminescent fungi, I have selected Panellus stipticus for ease of cultivation and reliable glowing effects. The mycelium that has been grown on the plugs that you receive gives off relatively low levels of greenish light and is only visible in complete darkness after about 5 minutes of allowing your eyes to adjust. The glow is dependant on available oxygen and dramatic and sudden increases in brightness can be achieved when plugs are exposed to the open air. The primordial, pins and mushrooms themselves glow very brightly and can be easily observed in less than complete darkness.
In nature, Panellus stipticus is found growing on logs and is shaped somewhat like a small leathery oyster mushroom.
These plugs are sold as a novelty only and do not produce edible or internally medicinal mushrooms. These mushrooms are not poisonous but are not edible either; they were once used as a cauderent to stop bleeding.
The mushrooms can be found growing on a wide variety of wood, and under a wide range of temperatures. Plug culture on logs are recommended for observing normal fruiting. We sell a complete kit that will teach you how to grow these mushrooms on logs, and stumps. We give you everything you need in this kit, wax, plugs, instructions, and a full study on the glowing mushrooms in nature just click on the mushroom growing kit tab.
You are buying 50 fully inoculated panellus stipticus wood dowels. 50 dowels is enough to inoculate two 40” long logs, or a stump 12-18” in diameter. If you have never inoculated a log, or stump.
I recommend buying our Glow-in-the dark Mushroom growing kit.
